Foundations of Special Education

This book surveys the provision of special education services to students in grades preK-12 with disabilities. It includes the history of special education, legal issues related to the field of special education, and characteristics of learners who qualify for services.

Foundations of Special Education

Dr. Kathleen VanTol / Author. Kathleen has over 35 years of experience working in the field of education. She holds a doctorate in special education from Western Michigan University and is a professor of special education at Dordt University. She is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and a Board Certified Advocate in Special Education.

Jennifer Breems / Editor. Jenni is the Director of Library Services at Dordt University's Hulst Library. She is an active participant in Iowa Private Academic Libraries, the Iowa OER Action Team, and library leadership activites through the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities.

Vaughn Donahue / Graphic Design Editor. Vaughn is the instructor of Graphic Design at Dordt University’s Department of Art & Design as well as a long-time freelance designer.

Andres Guzman / Translator and Research Assistant. Andres, originally an international student from Colombia, graduated from Dordt University. He majored in Civil Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship. He also was a Resident Assistant and tutored college-level Spanish classes.

Annabelle Vander Kooi / Graphic Designer. Annabelle has graduated from Dordt University with a Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Business.
