Overview of Tutoring Services

The Library and Tutoring Services department provides academic support that is designed to foster student learning and academic success. Tutoring services are available to all currently enrolled students. Tutoring is available on campus by appointment or on a walk-in basis. Online tutoring is available through a third-party platform, and students may participate in online sessions facilitated by the vendor’s tutors or FSCJ’s tutoring staff. Tutoring Services are provided in each of the campus facilities and online to ensure that students have access to academic support services regardless of the modality in which they are taking courses. The Tutoring Services Web page details services, resources, and staff availability.

Scope of Tutoring Services

Tutors can assist students with a range of academic tasks, with the exception of tests or other assignments for which instructors have prohibited outside assistance. Tutors work to provide supplemental support outside of class for content that students have covered during class time. Our goal is to empower students and to help them take ownership of their learning and feel more confident in tackling academic tasks.

Our tutors can provide academic assistance in core academic subjects such as reading, writing, math, science, world languages, and computers. Students who need course-specific academic support that lies outside of these general coverage areas should work with their instructors for assistance with more specialized content.

Students who need accommodations due to diagnosed disabilities should work with Student Support Services to access resources that will position them to interact successfully with available tutoring services. Tutors are not available to support test proctoring, and students needing proctoring services should contact the Assessment and Certification Center.
