Discussion: the Body and Food

In light of Zaban's "Gefilte Fish" and Ranta's "Consuming Palestine," how did the construction of the "new Jew" and the "imagined return" impact Jewish-Israelis' perception of the Palestinian body and food on the one hand, and of Jewish diasporic food and body vis-à-vis the new Jewish-Israeli body and Israeli food, on the other? Be sure to base your responses on both articles. If possible and relevant, please use examples and/or details and/or abbreviated quotes from the articles to support your answer, and please avoid overgeneralizations. Minimum 500 words for the main post. No minimum number of words for the response.

  1. One main post (7 points) - minimum 500 words.
  2. Respond to a classmate's post (3 points) - no minimum number of words.
