FINAL GROUP PROJECT:

1) What is the Final Project, when is it due, and when do you present it?

The final project consists of your collaborative group work in the form of one recording/video of your group's narration of the Google Slides or PowerPoint. The slides should contain an elaborate presentation of your "Small Group Research": the 4 categories you researched with your group. See your assigned group and get in touch with your partners to work together. Then, upload one link per group to "Final Group Project" assignment no later than Monday, Dec. 12 4:30 PM.

Your group will present the project during finals week (10-20 minutes per group) on Monday, Dec. 12 5:30-8:30 PM. Location to be decided.

2) What to include in the project?

a- First slide should contain your names, the topic of your presentation, and course title, Grand Challenge Freshmen Seminar: Palestinian and Israeli Food Cultures Fall 22.

b - An elaborate presentation of the 4 questions of your "Small Group Research", including visuals and video clips of your food items that you cooked, ordered, or videos you found online.

c- Frame your presentation by explaining the reason for your selection: for instance, why did you put together a menu that serves Israeli cuisine, Palestinian cuisine, particular ethnic dishes (e.g. Ashkenazi, Mizrahi, Ethiopian-Jewish, Druze, Bedouin)., etc… Draw on what you learned in the course to establish the reasons and backgrounds for each. In other words, you must have a justification and an argument for the framework of your selected menu.

Grading criteria: please note that videos are evaluated based on group effort in terms of collaborative work to form a meaningful, coherent menu and media, as well as individual effort in terms of

  • Sufficient and clear explanation of the student's part (make sure your audio is clear)
  • Inclusion of visuals
  • Meaningful, relevant, and elaborate research of the assigned category

3) How to record a narration of the slides?

- a) Create your slides. If it's easier, each student can narrate their own slides of the category they researched of the food items (including videos/photos), then the next student narrates theirs, etc....

All group participants must equally contribute to the slides and equally speak/narrate (i.e. students can have similar or different conclusions).

- b) On Zoom, 'record' your slides: make sure you 'record' your Zoom session while narrating) and download it on your computer.

-c) Download your recording either as an MP4 (video) or upload an 'Unlisted" link to YouTube. Upload your MP3 file or YouTube link to this assignment.

Good luck and enjoy creating your project!
