Library Instruction and Reference Services
Library instruction and reference services are provided by faculty librarians who meet the qualifications established by the College and applicable accrediting and professional standards. Librarians support student learning, information literacy, research skills, and academic success through a variety of instructional and research assistance services.
Library instruction is offered in multiple formats and may be provided to individual students, classes, groups, or academic programs. Instructional sessions may be customized to support specific disciplines, assignments, research projects, or course outcomes.
Instruction may include:
- Library orientations
- Research consultations
- Information literacy instruction
- Database and catalog searching
- Source evaluation and critical thinking
- Citation and academic integrity guidance
- Synchronous and asynchronous online instruction
- In-person classroom and Library presentations
Faculty are encouraged to collaborate with librarians to integrate information literacy and research skills into coursework. Instructional sessions may be tailored to meet course objectives and student learning needs.
Reference and research assistance is available in person and online. Librarians assist students, faculty, and staff with identifying, locating, evaluating, and using information resources effectively.
Ongoing assessment is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Library instruction and reference services and to support continuous improvement efforts.
