Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education

Library instruction is informed by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education, which provides a conceptual foundation for developing information literacy skills across disciplines.

The Framework includes the following concepts:

  • Authority Is Constructed and Contextual
  • Information Creation as a Process
  • Information Has Value
  • Research as Inquiry
  • Scholarship as Conversation
  • Searching as Strategic Exploration

Librarians collaborate with faculty to incorporate these concepts into instruction and student learning experiences, helping students become effective researchers and critical users of information.
