Figure 3.1 "The Carpenter" was a popular ballad-later collected in the southern Appalachians and was published as a broadside in London in 1795.
Full description
Image of the ballad, "The Carpenter", published as a broadside, printed in three columns surrounded by decorative borders. Near the top, at the center of the page, is an image of a couple standing beside each other in front of a fireplace, the wife is pointing a knife towards a basket with a blanket bundled inside of it, the husband is standing with one arm across his chest and the other reaching for the knife.
