Stout Created Theses and Dissertations
This guide will give you information on how to locate a Stout thesis or dissertation and give you more information on when your thesis or dissertation will be accessible through Minds@UW Stout.
Minds@UW and Minds@UW Stout
Minds@UW is a green, open access, digital repository of research and projects from the Universities of Wisconsin.
Minds@UW Stout holds UW-Stout research collections including Stout student creative and research projects, Stout faculty and staff projects, Stout theses and dissertations, and Stout interviews.
You do not need to log in to access these records. It is keyword searchable and free to access without a Stout ID.
Locating Minds@UW Stout
You can access it four different ways: UW-Stout Library website, Graduate Student Library Guide, search engines like Google, or UW-Stout Archives website. You can also use the direct link here: Minds@UW Stout.
UW-Stout Library Website
You can access the UW-Stout Library website here: UW-Stout Library. On the front page of the website, there is a box entitled, 'Archives/Institutional Repository.' In this box, there is a list of digital collections and services that the UW-Stout Archives provides. Select the 'Stout Theses and Dissertations' link.
Graduate Student Library Research Guide
You can access the research guide here: Graduate Student Research Guide. Select 'Find Theses' in the right hand list. Then, you can select any of the links listed under 'Find UW-Stout Theses' to go to Minds@UW Stout.
Search Engine
You can search for UW-Stout theses and dissertations by searching online through a search engine like Google. Look for the Minds@UW links and logos as shown in the image below. The logo is a dark blue circle with white and green squares. This will ensure that you are looking at a Minds@UW Stout record.
UW-Stout Archives Website
You can access the UW-Stout Archives website here: UW-Stout Archives. On the front page of the website, there is a blue circle icon with a category entitled, 'Digital Collections.' Select this link. it will take you to a digital collections guide. Select the digital repository listed entitled, 'Minds@UW Stout'.
Minds@UW Stout
Select the Theses and Dissertations community listed in Minds@UW Stout. This will take you to a list of all the different theses and dissertations created at UW-Stout. There is a banner at the top of the page that will indicate the last time that the theses and dissertations collection has been updated. This will help you if you are looking specifically for your thesis or one that was recently finished.
You can keyword search across all of the different theses and dissertations. You can also sort by year and author, if you have a specific thesis that you are looking for.
When you select a record, it will give you the abstract and information on the thesis. To view the full text paper, select the red hyperlink located under the thumbnail image of the thesis.
What can you use a Stout created thesis or dissertation for?
- Provides you with examples of research and topics discussed by people your specific field and program.
- Provides you with examples of citation and format expectations specific to your advisor, program, and field.
- Provides examples of qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, and other types of research methods.
- Provides you with sources and resarch to build upon that may be connected to the research you are conducting.

The Stout Repository includes a wide range of projects, data, and written works by Stout faculty, staff, and students. Stout dissertations and theses since the 1930s are included routinely, and other works including formal publications, capstone projects, data sets, design concept drawings and photographs documenting physical objects work well in the repository.
