Department Budget Increase

Adyn Rowlet, Isaac Mata, and Kelsey Ehrmann

Background

A specific department at a university requires more funding.

The Dilemma

The department wants another professor but does not have the funding to hire them. The department has had an influx of students for the upcoming year. This professor would specifically teach a couple new classes that are upper level to help with the larger number of students the department is not used to. Without this addition the current group of professors are stretched thin currently which results in a massive workload.

Decision-making Process

Write a letter to the department asking for a budget increase. This letter would outline what the money would be used for specifically. The person writing this letter would be a professor with the best Human skills so the struggles of the professors in the department can be talked about to help persuade for a budget increase.

The Decision

If done correctly the decision would go in favor of the department, a decision to expand the budget would be made.

Outcomes

Another professor was hired to this department and resulted in decreasing the workload of the other professors.

Discussion Questions

Why would a professor use human skills when writing this letter?

Would a different skill type be more successful for increasing the budget?
