Transcripts
This guide assumes that you have created an OEN Manifold account, have admin access to the backend, have created a project, and ingested a text or plan to ingest a text, or edit or create a text using the Manifold Editor. If you do not have Project Creator status, please review the Request an Account form.
For help creating a project and adding a text, see the Creating a Project Quick Guide.
What are Transcripts and why are they important for accessibility?
Transcripts are the textual representation of audio content. They are usually in the form of a file or document. They are essential to include with any audio content you create or share. Not only are they key for deaf or hard of hearing users to understand and consume content, but they can also be helpful for users who may not have access to headphones, users who prefer having both audio and visual components available, or for users who are learning a new language.
How do I put Transcripts in a Manifold Project?
You can add your transcript file as a Resource to your Project.
How to add a Transcript file to Manifold
To add a transcript file to your Manifold Project, you’ll want to add it as a Resource.
First go to the “Resources” tab in the backend of your project.
Click the “Add a New Resource” button below the resources search bar.
The New Resource page will appear. Click on File.
Scroll down slightly to see the metadata information to enter about your file. This is where you can add the file title, description, and upload the file.
That file will now appear in the Resources section of your Manifold Project.
For more details on adding Resources to Manifold see the Adding and Embedding Resources Getting Start Guide.
Remember to verify that your transcript is accurate before uploading it to your Manifold Project.
